Gaming system - UEFI Questions

2 posts in this topic

Hi, I'm a complete noob in this area so please he patient with me, I wanna learn and I hope you can share your knowledge with me I wanna build a new gaming PC with Windows 8, I have in mind to upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out, I assume they will work in a similar way, I know UEFI is not required but I like the idea of Secure Boot and having more than 4 primary partitions, etc. However, I have a lot of questions about this, I'm not sure how does it work, is it part of the motherboard? Like completely replacing BIOS? Is it part of the CPU? Is it just software? And how do I know if the motherboard I'm buying has UEFI instead of BIOS I will appreciate for all the knowledge you share with me, I'm sorry for my ignorance in this area, thanks.

In a basic sense, UEFI is just the next generation BIOS. So technically BIOS is gone when you have a motherboard with UEFI. People just still call it the BIOS.
